resources

so you want to make a game engine?

This used to be a draft of a blog post called "so... you want to make a game engine", but it just sat there for a long time, so I decided to repurpose it into a resources page. This means you pretty much get the same thing but without the intro talking about Unity and without the answer to the question "so, are game engines bad?"

what tech can you use?

Here's a non exhaustive list of things you can use to make a game engine, or a game from scratch.

### todo: add links and short descriptions for each one of these...

  • SDL2
  • GLFW
  • bgfx
  • sokol
  • box2D
  • raylib
  • SFML
  • MonoGame
  • FNA
  • libGDX

guided learning

Maybe you want something that will take your hand and guide your way a little bit, that's a good way to start it out, here are good resources that I've used and that I recommend.
