Facts about Nikola Tesla's Life

  • 1856 - Nikola Tesla is born at Smiljan, Austrian Empire
  • 1861 - Attended Primary School in Smiljan, studied German, arithmetic and religion
  • 1862 - Moved to Gospić, completed Primary School
  • 1870 - Moved to Karlovac to attend the Higher Real Gymnasium
  • 1873 - Graduated and returned to Smiljan, contracted cholera and were near death
  • 1874 - Ran away to Tomingaj to avoid being drafted into the Austro-Hungarian army
  • 1875 - Enroll in Austrian Polytechnic in Graz, Austria
  • 1879 - Death of Tesla's father
  • 1881 - Move to Budapest to work at a telegraph company, becoming Chief Eletrician
  • 1882 - Move to France to work for the Continental Edison Company
  • 1884 - Move to New York to work for Edison Machine Works
  • 1885 - Resign Edison Machine Works
  • 1886 - Starts Tesla Eletric Light & Manufacturing and got out on the same year
  • 1887 - Formed Tesla Eletric Company
  • 1888 - Built an induction motor that ran on alterating current, negotiated a deal and were hired as a consultant at the Westinghouse Eletric & Manufacturing Company
  • 1891 - Became a naturalized citizen of the United States and patented the Tesla Coil
  • 1892 - 1894 - Served as Vice President of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers
  • 1898 - Demonstrated a radio-controller boat for the first time
  • 1899 - Moved to Colorado Springs
  • 1902 - Moved to Wardenclyffe Tower in Shoreham, New York
  • 1906 - Demonstrated his bladeless machine
  • 1917 - Sold Wardenclyffe Tower, postulated a system similar to the modern radars
  • 1919 - 1922 - Worked in Milwaukee for Allis-Chalmers
  • 1937 - Claimed to have built his Death Ray
  • 1943 - Died at age 86 in New York City
